A key initiative of the Coalition is to connect subject matter experts with sector leaders who are working on the frontlines while at the same time trying to understand and interpret new information, new funding programs, and changing policies and legislation.
We will be offering a series of closed sessions for only sector leaders on topics related to issues of concern to them such as human resources management and leadership. We will also be offering some that will be open to anyone in the sector on topics such as recovery planning and how to respond to emerging social policy issues.more.

Topic: Advocacy at the National Level: Hot Topics and Key Issues for Nonprofits
Speakers from Imagine Canada, the Ontario Nonprofit Network, and Community Foundations of Canada will share what they have heard from organizations in the sector across Canada and their perspectives on where we need to focus advocacy efforts moving forward. Presentations will be followed by breakout sessions for participants to network with peers and discuss what their thoughts and learnings.

Topic: Unfunded: How Black Communities and Organizations are at a Funding Disadvantage
In honour of African Heritage Month we hosted a panel discussion with a focus on funding inequities faced by black communities and organizations in Nova Scotia. A recent report from Carleton University and the Network for the Advancement of Black Communities called “Unfunded” found that public and private foundations in Canada are underfunding Black-serving and Black-led community organizations. Building from this research, panelists discussed their experiences and perspectives and how they can be better supported.

In this Open Forum Kenny shared his model of change management and explore how nonprofit leaders can apply it to move their organizations toward being more inclusive, equitable and diverse. Motivated by the Black Lives Matter Movement and Anti-Black and Indigenous racism Kenny’s personal commitment is to work with his community to make a meaningful difference and support our collective efforts to move toward social justice.
